October 11, 2026: Roger Pielke Jr. to Speak at Clintel Event in Driebergen
The American scientist Roger Pielke Jr. is one of the most interesting and outspoken voices in the international climate debate. On Sunday afternoon, October 11, he will come to Driebergen, the Netherlands, at Clintel’s invitation for an extensive lecture on extreme weather, climate-related damages, climate scenarios, and the politicization of climate science.
Sunday, October 11, 2026 | 2:00–4:30 PM | Antropia, Driebergen, the Netherlands
Tickets: €35 per person | Friends of Clintel: €25 per person
A Special Guest in the Netherlands
For decades, Roger Pielke Jr. has focused on one of the most contentious questions in the climate debate: what can we really say, based on scientific evidence, about extreme weather and the impacts of climate change?
He has published extensively on trends in hurricanes, floods, droughts and wildfires, as well as on the economic damage caused by extreme weather. His conclusions are often far more nuanced than newspaper headlines and political statements would suggest – and on key points are closely aligned with what the IPCC itself reports.
Yet since 2006, Pielke has faced fierce criticism from activist scientists, journalists, campaigners and politicians. Pielke puts scientific integrity ahead of exaggerating scientific claims in support of political objectives. That stance has come at considerable personal and professional cost. During his visit to Clintel, he will also share some of those experiences.
From Extreme Weather to RCP8.5
Pielke has also played an important role for many years in the international debate over RCP8.5, the very high emissions scenario that has frequently been used to illustrate future climate risks.
He was among those who tirelessly pointed out that this scenario was increasingly being presented, incorrectly, as a likely future. During his lecture, he will also discuss RCP8.5 and the changing role of this scenario in climate science.
The afternoon therefore promises to be about much more than climate and extreme weather. It will also address scientific integrity, the media, politics, and the question of how we can continue to distinguish facts from perception in a highly polarized climate debate.
If there is anyone who can give an insider’s perspective on the polarized and politicized international climate debate, it is Roger Pielke Jr. It is therefore a great honor for Clintel to welcome him to the Netherlands.
An Accessible Sunday Afternoon in Driebergen
We have deliberately scheduled this special event for Sunday afternoon, making it easier for visitors from across the Netherlands and beyond to travel to Driebergen and return home at a convenient time.
We have asked Roger Pielke Jr. to make his lecture as accessible as possible to a broad audience. You certainly do not need to be a climate scientist to follow his presentation.
The lecture will be given in English. Clintel will provide live AI-powered translation into Dutch. The Dutch translation can be read on a screen in the auditorium, while visitors can also read or listen to the translation on their own smartphone.
Translation into other languages will also be available on request, in both written and spoken form on your smartphone. If you would like to follow the lecture in a specific language, you can indicate your preferred language when purchasing your ticket or contact us in advance at office@clintel.org.
If you would like to listen to the translation on your smartphone, please remember to bring your own earphones or headphones.
Antropia is located directly next to Driebergen-Zeist railway station and is easily accessible by both public transport and car.

More About Roger Pielke Jr.
Would you like to learn more about Roger Pielke Jr.’s work and ideas before the event? Over the years, Clintel has published many of his articles in translation for our Dutch, German, French and Spanish audiences.
For his latest work in English, we recommend following Pielke directly on his Substack, The Honest Broker, and on X, where he regularly writes about extreme weather, climate-related damages, climate scenarios, energy policy, science and politics.
The video by John Stossel also provides an excellent introduction to Pielke and his distinctive position in the American climate debate.
We hope this event offers a unique opportunity to hear Roger Pielke Jr. in person and engage with one of the most thought-provoking voices in today’s international climate debate.

The Climate Policy Trap: Why Failure So Often Leads to More of the Same
Group identity, social status, and a credential-dominated policy establishment make the climate narrative increasingly immune to disappointing results, argues Evert Doornhof of Clintel. The result is a climate policy trap in which failure doesn’t lead to reconsideration, but to even more climate policy.
No, the Loneliness Epidemic is Not Caused by Climate Change
The loneliness epidemic is made worse by climate change because increasingly common severe weather is forcing people to stay separate. Linnea Lueken comments on this new and absurd claim.
Success of American climate sceptics is the result of hard work
The current success of the climate sceptic movement in the United States is not accidental. It is the result of several decades of deliberate work, networking, and strategic campaigning, says Craig Rucker of CFACT.
